Pete Doherty expresses regrets about life on drugs
Pete Doherty has reportedly expressed regret over his drug habit and suspects his future will be far from rosy unless he beats his addictions once and for all.
A source close to the Babyshambles frontman has leaked documents which are apparently diary entries from Pete’s time in rehab earlier in the autumn. In the papers, printed in the Sun, Pete posits: “If I had not been chemically dependent my life would have been extremely manageable.”
“No jail, no rehab, normal functioning friendships and relationships and a lucrative, respectable career. I would probably own a house, a driving licence and a better reputation.”
“If I don’t pack in drugs, particularly crack and heroin, I am likely to either die, go bankrupt, go mad or end up permanently institutionalised. I’m on a direct course for all four.”
In another entry, he added: “My addiction has seen me banned/barred from many establishments, and even in one case I was Asbo’d from the whole of London.”
“The cancellation of tours, contracts and individual appearances has cost me untold financial benefits.”
Pete spent six weeks in a programme at the Clouds clinic in Wiltshire and during his time there, he reconciled with his dad and saw his four year old son, Astile. In a related diary entry, he wrote: “My baby’s mother has always kept my son at a distance in the light of my active addiction. This has caused me severe loss in terms of missing out on a potentially beautiful relationship with the young fella.”
Pete repeatedly passed drug tests during his time in the clinic and for the first fortnight after leaving the programme - but has since been filmed and admitted injecting heroin again. He is thought to be returning to a treatment programme after apologising to fans last week.
